What’s good about my childhood in the 1980s was the weather because it did not matter if the sun was blaring hot or it was raining cats and dogs, my siblings and I and our friends were always playing outside. The only thing that could stop us from going out at that time was the threat of spanking. 😉 And because of that I feel grateful for playful kiddie adventures.
“It is a happy talent to know how to play.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Weather. Cool breeze, warm Florida day perfect for a full fall day outdoors.
Sabbath. I love Sabbaths. It’s my favorite day of the week. It brings me a sense of serenity and peace. This day was spent very close to nature, outdoors at an Adventurers camporee. I heard the speaker say: “the more time you spend with creation/nature, the closer you get to knowing the Creator”.
Children. Both of my kids were ecstatic to see tents everywhere. They were given an activity bag full of stuff to do and my heart was just really thankful that we were there to be a part of it. The smiles on my children’s faces brought a smile to mine, too.
Adventures. I took my children to Camp Kulaqua, a beautiful camp nestled away from the city. My children had the grandest time as they sang songs, played with friends, worshipped and learned about Jesus. My daughter ran around, played with mud with some other girls pretending to serve me hot choco drinks. She had mud all over her shoes, dress and face but she didn’t care. I felt happy for her.
Music. My daughter sang the special music today at the camp. The music accompaniment turned off halfway through the song but she managed to finish it. I am glad for gift of music God has blessed her with.
We went home tired and sleepy but accomplished. As I tucked my children to bed, I asked them what their favorite part of the day was, my daughter answered, “everything”. That answer made me feel the joy of the moment.
Thank you, God, for everything today.
